oops, it seems tangled didn't escape the html, I meant support typeahead in a textarea element (such as the one for replying to issues)

Ah got it. Yes, that's definitely out of scope — a floating @mention UI for a textarea would dramatically increase the size and complexity of this library. I'd look into plugins for Prosemirror if you want to create that.
